Why are professional shampoos diluted?

Proč se profi šampony ředí?

A million-dollar question. Perhaps this is the first time you've considered whether it even needs diluting. And in what ratio? Read on.

Professional products are concentrated

In the article Why not buy shampoo from a pet shop we showed you all the harmful substances you can find in those classic commercial shampoos and how to learn to think about the labels of dog cosmetics. Professional salons usually work with high-quality, verified brands, which you can find in our e-shop. They mainly contain natural ingredients, in high concentration.

90% of professional cosmetics are safe for eyes and ears, and you don't have to worry.

You'll see the difference immediately

But there's another dimension to it. Diluted shampoo penetrates deeper into the coat, and dilution also helps distribute active ingredients better. So it has an even better effect when washing the dog than a cheap option from the store that you didn't dilute and just smeared half the bottle onto the dog. After washing the dog with a diluted quality product, you will immediately notice the difference in the shiny and soft coat that is truly nourished deep down.

How to dilute correctly?

A lot depends on the specific shampoo and dog, but it is generally recommended to dilute the product in a 1:3 ratio (1 part shampoo, 3 parts water, mix in a bowl ideally with warm water) or 1:5 – usually, the professional packaging states the recommended dilution. Then apply to wet coat, gradually massage in. Rub in, work with fingers, leave on for about 5-10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Because the shampoo is so concentrated, without dilution it can cause dandruff on the skin of the back.

We bet on a 3-step approach to dog washing:

1. Thoroughly wash the dog with a cleansing shampoo. 2. Thoroughly wash the dog with a conditioning shampoo. 3. Apply conditioner or nourishing mask. Only then brush and dry the dog.

When you think, you save

And the icing on the cake: By buying a quality professional shampoo, you actually save money, because if you dilute it correctly, you won't use as much from the bottle, it will last longer than cheaper alternatives, which you would need for 2 washes without dilution. And honestly – when you buy shampoo from a pet shop and apply it directly to the coat, it's like liquid soap in a gooey form... And it takes a lot of effort and a large amount of product before you manage to lather it all over the furry friend's coat. It's annoying, and the dog doesn't enjoy it either. And what if you have more dogs?!!
