How often to jump on it? (Comb)

Jak často na to skočit? (Česat)

Combing, combing, it drives away all dreadlocks. If you have a hard heart, and trouble, take a brush before the dog licks his dreadlocks. But few owners (and dogs) love brushing. How often do you inevitably resort to it?

Search for a breed by coat

Step one – if you’ve had a dog in the past and are considering getting a new one, don’t be shy about choosing a breed that suits your brushing preferences! It’s better than worrying about having a hairball at home that even holy water won’t fix. Better than complaining about a couch that’s always covered in hair or buying expensive vacuum cleaners that won’t completely get rid of dog hair. Sure, where there’s hair, there’s life and there’s no good coffee without hair, but sometimes you can make your life a hair better without constantly touching your tongue and picking out that little bit of food.

Where there is hair, there is life.

Choose the right tool

Maybe you gave love to a shelter dog that seemed to be unkempt and then completely fell apart at home, and you have no idea who its parents were or how to approach it? Bet on quality tools! For short-haired breeds, you will bless the rubber brush ! It is a rubber brush with coarse tips. We think it works so well on the principle of static electricity that the hairs just love it and follow it . In any case, you will comb out an enormous amount of hair from short-haired dogs with it, until you wonder if there is anything left on their skin.

(You can also use it on horses, for example).

For long-haired animals, we recommend a quality brush with long bristles . For dreadlocks, you will sometimes need a trimmer , we won't lie to you. And of course, a furminator is a must-have at home . It is a hair detective, it will capture even those that haven't wanted to leave their follicles yet , but have barely thought about it.

The right tool will even comb out last year's hair.

Frequency matters

So now to the main thing. Step 3. Do it often . There is nothing to postpone here, the dignity of the apartment and the dog's life is at stake. If you have an Afghan hound, a collie (and border!), a Bernese mountain dog or even a Scottish terrier, it will require daily loving brushing. It's worth it, you'll see. Golden retrievers, huskies or even a spitz are content with combing 2-3 times a week , they won't even sit still much more often. Short-haired dogs have it easier, once a week is enough for them, anyway everything falls out of them when they run around frantically (bulldog, stafford, labrador...).

The Scotch needs daily maintenance, at least the cluttered undercarriage.

There are a few exceptions that don't need to be brushed. These include hairless breeds , or hairless dogs, and then we think that there are also "aquatic" breeds like the Komondor (we call him Mop) . Nothing in the world will brush that.

Komondor. A breed full of dreadlocks.

Let us know at info@groomo.cz what kind of furry friend you have at home and how does he cooperate with grooming? We will talk about grooming with consent in some of the next articles. Let's keep our fingers crossed that you don't have to reach for a sheep's razor!
